dbt Analytics Engineering Certification

dbt™ certification exam weights

dbt Labs does not publish a percentage weight for any section of the dbt Analytics Engineering Certification exam. Here is exactly what the study guide does publish, and how studydelta estimates each section's depth without pretending dbt Labs published a number it did not.

Short answer

dbt Labs publishes no section weights anywhere in the 65-question, 120-minute exam's own study guide or certification page. The only percentage in the guide is the passing score, not a per-section figure.

What dbt Labs actually publishes

The study guide's own Topics Outline lists 7 sections and 31 objective bullets in total, with no figure of any kind attached to any of them:

  • Developing and optimizing dbt models
  • Managing dbt models governance
  • Debugging data modeling errors
  • Troubleshooting and optimizing dbt pipelines
  • Implementing dbt tests
  • Implementing and maintaining external dependencies
  • Leveraging the dbt state

Searching the guide for a percent sign outside the passing score turns up nothing. That is a stated absence, not a retrieval failure: dbt Labs has never published section weights for this exam.

What studydelta shows instead

Since dbt Labs publishes no section weights, studydelta estimates each section's share of the mock from how many objective bullets the guide gives it: more bullets, more of the paper. Every estimated figure is marked, never shown as if dbt Labs published it:

Developing and optimizing dbt models
45.16%*
Managing dbt models governance
9.68%*
Debugging data modeling errors
16.13%*
Troubleshooting and optimizing dbt pipelines
6.45%*
Implementing dbt tests
9.68%*
Implementing and maintaining external dependencies
6.45%*
Leveraging the dbt state
6.45%*

* Our estimate. dbt Labs publishes no section weights.

Why this matters

Almost no prep resource says this part plainly. If a competing dbt prep site states a specific section percentage as though dbt Labs published it, that number was invented: dbt Labs has never published one for this exam. Publishing the honest absence, instead of a confident-sounding guess, is the whole point of showing our work here.
